CNC Machined in the USA | 6061 Billet Aluminum | Complete Hardware Kit Included
The AMC 401 was the biggest V8 American Motors ever built — 401 cubic inches of torque-heavy iron that made the Javelin AMX a serious Trans-Am contender and turned a lightweight Jeep CJ into something genuinely dangerous off the pavement. When AMC dropped the 401 into a CJ5 or CJ7, they weren't being subtle about it. Neither is this badge. If you're running an AMC 401-powered CJ, this is the one piece of hardware that tells anyone who pops the hood exactly what they're looking at.
This is the Mad4Metal AMC 401 badge for Jeep CJ5 and CJ7 — machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum. The 401 designation is CNC cut directly into the face, then hand-polished to a mirror finish. No decals, no paint fill, no adhesive backing. Just aluminum, a cutting tool, and time on the machine.
Not stamped. Not cast. Not a sticker. Machined.
Hardware holes bored at 2-3/8" center-to-center on 1/4"-28 fine thread. Bolt it to the valve cover and it sits there like it came from the factory — which it basically did, just decades later and out of a Coeur d'Alene machine shop instead of Kenosha.
About the Finish
These badges are polished to a mirror finish, but if you look closely you'll see the machining marks from the CNC cutting process — fine, consistent toolpath lines across the face. Those marks are intentional. They're what separates a real machined billet part from something that was painted, cast in a mold, or made to look like metal. A perfectly mark-free, glassy smooth surface would look like painted plastic. The toolpath lines catch light at different angles depending on where you're standing, and that shifting reflection is the signature of a part that was actually cut on a machine. If you want to bring up the high spots even more, a quick pass with aluminum polish will do it — while keeping the machining character completely intact.

Why Machined Aluminum Beats Everything Else
Cast zinc cracks under vibration. Plastic fades, chalks, and eventually falls apart in the engine bay — especially in a CJ that actually gets used off-road. Stick-on emblems peel, every time, guaranteed with heat cycles. 6061-T6 aluminum doesn't do any of those things. It's light, strong, corrosion-resistant, and doesn't care about mud, heat, or trail dust. When the finish dulls, you polish it back. No repainting, no replacing, no starting over.
